JAUNDICE

Jaundice is a condition wherein the skin & eyes of an individual turn yellow due to the presence of certain chemicals such a bilirubin in the blood stream. The increase of bilirubin in the blood stream could be caused by: Inability of liver to breakdown bilirubin, Excessive bilirubin, entering the liver, Blockage of the bile ducts, Liver damage due to alcohol abuse and  Excessive rate of red blood cells decay

ACUTE LIVER FAILURE

Liver Failure is a condition wherein the liver is effectively unable to perform its regular functions. Typically, a liver damage of over 80% can result in this. Acute liver failure indicates a rapid degeneration of the liver cells. And it is typically caused by: Hepatitis and other viral infections, Autoimmune disorders, Excessive use of certain prescription medicines, Cancers and blockages of the liver and Excessive alcohol abuse leading to fatty liver

ACUTE HEPATITIS

Hepatitis is the inflammation of the liver caused by the destruction of liver cells and the increase of inflammatory cells in the liver tissue. The condition is classified into Acute & Chronic Hepatitis. Acute Hepatitis lasts for less than six months and is caused by : Hepatitis A is caused by drinking contaminated fluids, Hepatitis B is caused by transmission of the virus from one infected person to another, Hepatitis C is caused by contact with contaminated needles or blood, Hepatitis D affects only those already affected with Hepatitis B and Hepatitis E is caused by consumption of contaminated food or fluids

CHRONIC HEPATITIS

Viral infections causing the inflammation of the liver and destruction of liver cells is known as Hepatitis. Hepatitis increases the inflammatory cells in the liver tissue and is classified into Acute & Chronic Hepatitis. Chronic Hepatitis lasts for more than six months and is caused by : Existing condition of Hepatitis B & C, Alcohol & substance abuse, Autoimmune liver disease, Metabolic liver disease and Existing condition of non-alcohol fatty liver disease

HEPATITIS B & C

Hepatitis B & C are viral infections that cause the inflammation of the liver and destruction of liver cells. These are also the most commonly prevalent forms of Hepatitis and can develop into chronic cases of Hepatitis over a period of time. Hepatitis B & C are caused by : Contact with infected blood & fluids, Unsafe blood transfusion, Unsafe sexual practices, Using of infected needles, razors etc and  Improper sterilization of medical equipment

LIVER CIRRHOSIS

The scarring of the Liver surface - which is normally smooth - is known as Liver Cirrhosis. The soft tissues on the outside of the liver are replaced by hard, uneven surface. Over the course of time, this affects the functioning of the liver adversely. Causes of Liver Cirrhosis include : Long term liver disorders, Excessive drinking & alcohol abuse, Accumulation of fats in liver, Genetic digestive disorders and Destruction of bile ducts

ALCOHOLIC LIVER DISEASE

Excessive drinking of alcohol is one of the foremost causes of liver diseases. Alcohol contains toxins that are detrimental to the health of the liver. The liver tries to breakdown alcohol and repeated alcohol abuse leads to Alcoholic Liver Disease. Symptoms of the disease include : Loss of appetite, Nausea & vomiting, Abdominal tenderness, Fatigue & weakness and Excessive Weight loss

FATTY LIVER DISEASE

Accumulation of excess fat in the liver causes the fatty liver disease. One of the most common factors contributing to fatty liver disease is excessive drinking. However, patients without a drinking problem are also known to suffer from the disease. The symptoms include : Loss of appetite, Nausea & vomiting, Abdominal tenderness, Fatigue & weakness and Excessive Weight loss

AUTOIMMUNE LIVER DISEASE

Autoimmune liver disease is one wherein the body's own defense mechanism or immune system starts attacking the liver. This results in loss of functionality and inflammation of the liver. Symptoms of autoimmune liver disease include: Loss of appetite, Nausea & vomiting, Dark urine, Fatigue & weakness and Joint pains & itching

LIVER CANCER

Cancer is the growth of uncontrolled growth of cells that are detrimental to the human body. Liver Cancer therefore denotes the growth of these cells in the liver. There are several types of Cancers that can originate in the liver. The symptoms of liver cancer include : Loss of appetite, Loss of weight, Abdominal pain or swelling, General weakness & fatigue and Jaundice

LIVING DONOR LIVER TRANSPLANTATION

Liver transplant with a part of a living donor's healthy liver and removal of the diseased liver! The liver in both the donor & receiver then grows to the normal size.

CADAVER LIVER TRANSPLANTATION

Liver transplant with the healthy liver of a deceased person and removal of the diseased liver from the patient!

DOMINO LIVER TRANSPLANTATION

Liver taken from a liver transplant recipient is placed into a second person - also with a liver disease and awaiting transplant, typically for elderly patients.

SPLIT LIVER TRANSPLANTATION

Liver transplant with the healthy liver of a deceased person and split into two to be transplanted into two patients and removal of the diseased liver from both!

AUXILIARY LIVER TRANSPLANTATION

Liver transplant wherein only a part of the diseased liver is removed and the rest of the organ is left to regenerate over a period of time.

PAEDIATRIC LIVER TRANSPLANTATION

Liver transplant surgery in infants or children wherein there is little hope for survival without the removal of the diseased kidney and replacement with a healthy organ.
