PARKINSON'S DISEASE

PARKINSON'S IS A DISORDER OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM THAT AFFECTS MOVEMENTS AND DEVELOPS SLOWLY & GRADUALLY.

The disease can, to begin with, start in a barely perceptible form with just one of the hands showing signs of trembling in a very feeble manner. Alternatively, some people also experience stiffness of the hands and gradual slowing down of movements.

ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE

ALZHEIMHER'S DISEASE IS A DISORDER OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM THAT PROGRESSIVELY AFFECTS MEMORY & BRAIN FUNCTIONS.

The disease is the most common form of dementia, which results in the loss of intellectual & social skills in an individual. People in the beginning stages of Alzheimer's are known to experience confusion, difficulty in remembering incidences and people.

BRAIN TUMOR

TUMORS OF THE BRAIN ARE ABNORMAL GROWTH OF CELLS INSIDE THE BRAIN OR IN NEAR PROXIMITY OF THE BRAIN.

Brain tumors are not always cancerous and the risk posed by them depends on their proximity to the brain & their size. The tumors could originate in the brain itself and their spread outward, known as primary brain tumors.

PITUITARY TUMOR

PITUITARY TUMORS ARE ABNORMAL GROWTH OF CELLS IN THE PITUITARY GLAND AFFECTING HORMONE PRODUCTION.

The pituitary gland is a vital hormone producing gland in the body and tumors in the gland have a cascading effect on various other bodily functions. Tumors in the pituitary gland are non-cancerous (benign) adenomas in most cases.

TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA

TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA IS A PERSISTENT PAIN CONDITION EFFECTING THE TRIGEMINAL NERVE CONNECTING THE BRAIN TO THE FACE.

Trigeminal neuralgia causes excruciating pain in the facial region even with mild stimulation of the face. Initially, the patient may experience only mild and short-bursts of the pain. However, gradually the pain becomes more persistent.

EPILEPSY

EPILEPSY IS A DISORDER OF THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM THAT CAUSES SUDDEN, SEIZURES & LOSS OF CONSCIOUSNESS.

Epilepsy is a fairly common neurological condition with almost 2-3% population in developed countries suffering from this disease. Epilepsy also results in behavioral changes and loss of sensation in the body.

STROKE

A STROKE IS A CONDITION WHEREIN THE BLOOD SUPPLY TO THE BRAIN OR A PART OF IT IS REDUCED OR CUT OFF.

The reduction or cutting off of blood supply to the brain, even for a very brief period can result in the death of brain cells causing severe damage or even death. Advances in medical science has greatly reduced the number of stroke related deaths.

HYDROCEPHALUS

THE BUILD OF FLUID IN THE DEEP CAVITIES (VENTRICLES) OF THE BRAIN IS KNOWN AS HYDROCEPHALUS.

The fluid buildup results in the increase in size of the cavities and thereby increases the pressure on the brain. A fluid, known as the cerebrospinal fluid, generally surrounds the brain and flows through the brain cavities.

ANEURYSM

A BRAIN ANEURYSM IS A BULGE IN THE BLOOD VESSELS OF THE BRAIN AND IT CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE A HEMORRAGE.

An aneurysm can split, rupture or leak and these typically occur in the space that lies between the brain and the tissues that surround it. A hemorrhage caused by a brain aneurysm is known as subarachnoid hemorrhage.

PROCEDURES

  • STEREO EEG IMPLANTATION
  • SUBDURAL GRID IMPLANTATION
  • CRANIOTOMY
  • COMPLEX TEMPORAL EPILEPSY SURGERY
  • HEMISPHEROTOMY
  • THROMBOLYSIS
  • MECHANICAL THROMBECTOMY
  • DEEP BRAIN STIMULATION

STEREO ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAPHY IMPLANTAITION

A stereo electroencephalography (SEEG) implantation is an invasive surgical procedure employed to identify the areas of the brain where epileptic seizures originate. In this procedure, the doctors place electrodes in targeted brain areas, this helps precisely the source and location of the seizure. Consequently, the seizure can be neutralized by a surgical resection of the abnormality.

SUBDURAL GRID IMPLANTATION

A subdural grid implantation is diagnostic procedure employed to identify the areas of the brain where epileptic seizures originate. The implantation is helpful for accurately localizing seizure activity that has been identified with scalp EEG recordings.

CRANIOTOMY

A craniotomy is a surgical procedure wherein a part of the bone from the skull to expose the brain. This is done using specialized tools which remove the bone flap to expose the brain, allowing surgical procedures to be undertaken. The temporarily removed bone flap is, then replaced after the brain surgery is completed.

COMPLEX TEMPORAL EPILEPSY SURGERY

A complex temporal epilepsy surgery is performed to either remove the brain area where seizures begin or stop the spread of seizure activity. The result of the surgery is either curative which is to stop the seizures or palliative which is to restrict the spread of the seizures. Surgeons will finalize the type of surgery to be performed based on the type of seizures and their origin within the brain.

HEMISPHEROTOMY

Hemispherectomy is a surgical procedure for the total or partial removal of an affected cerebral hemisphere or disconnecting the affected cerebral hemisphere from the unaffected side of the brain. The procedure is helpful for patients with cause-unknown epilepsy with seizures arising from the pathological side. Weakness to one side of the body with loss of muscle strength, peripheral vision.

THROMBOLYSIS

Thrombolysis is a procedure undertaken to dissolve dangerous clots in blood vessels, improve blood flow, and prevent damage to tissues and organs. It is also known as thrombolytic therapy and involves the injection of clot-busting drugs through an intravenous line or through a long catheter that delivers drugs directly to the site of the blockage.

MECHANICAL THROMBECTOMY

Mechanical thrombectomy is a treatment procedure for strokes by removing clots that block large blood vessels. The procedure is undertaken using an angiogram or a catheterization along with a device that grabs clots and removes them, to reestablish blood flow to the brain. This reduces the risk of strokes or helps patients overcome a stroke they may have already suffered.

DEEP BRAIN STIMULATION

Deep brain stimulation (dbs) is a surgical procedure that helps reduce symptoms of tremor, slowness of movement, stiffness, and walking problems caused by movement disorders. DBS may be a treatment option for people who have Parkinson's disease, dystonia, or essential tremor and whose symptoms are not well controlled with medication. Successful DBS allows people to better manage their symptoms, reduce their medications, and improve their quality of life.
